Introducing Jean-Jacques Gabriel, our newest FeetUp Teacher!
We absolutely love that Jean-Jacques teaches embodied movement which invites everyone to be at home in their own bodies with authority, autonomy, and power. His classes, informed by a personal experience of compassionate listening, are uniquely rewarding in both content and presentation. JJ is a wonderful teacher, and we're honored to have him join our team of experienced FeetUp Experience instructors! jean-jacques gabriel is a Haitian-born father, artist, teacher and bodyworker. He started practicing yoga in 2001, and started teaching yoga to kids in an arts-based after school program in 2003. His first adult students were incarcerated men and women across several prisons in Maryland. jean-jacques teaches yoga as a powerful tool of both personal liberation and collective connection. He completed his first yoga teacher training in Southern India in 2006, and has studied Ashtanga Vinyasa, AcroYoga, Anusara, YogaHour and Thai Massage. jean-jacques nurtures a vibrant studio community while presenting at movement festivals around the world. He currently co-leads the 200 hour teacher training program at Studio 34 in West Philly and is the co-creator of “The Embodied Collection” with Philadelphia Printworks, a yoga clothing clothing line that honors and inspires the efforts of people of color in creating wellness. The line is rooted In the words of Audre Lorde, “Caring for myself is not self-indulgent. Caring for myself is an act of survival.” In addition to leading movement classes and trainings, he loves to steep in story while drawing and painting portraits.
